Today is new
This morning I woke up with a brand new perfect body. It was such a wonderful feeling touching my new skin for the first time and feeling crisp water flow down my pristine throat. I can't tell you how good it felt to move my new limbs about and take air into fresh lungs! I wholeheartedly suggest you do the same.

prophesy
A crater will be made by the mythical hammer of Thor comparable to the inherently fierce Cyclopean wrath; afterwards a goat-man should appear, an androgynous shaman or micro-cephalic woodsman will be sacrificed under a totem---literally.

Two men I saw
I saw a man with stilts taped to his legs trying to pick up a beautiful stone pebble off the ground and right next to him was a man only three feet tall trying to grab hold of a high tree branch to pick its fruit. They didn't notice each other. The man on stilts fell over and scraped his chin on the pavement. The short man stormed off in a huff, cursing his inadequate stature.

What does it mean to be a man?
This is the basic theme of the current issue of What is Enlightenment? magazine and a question I have asked myself continually. The articles display interviews of many thinkers about what role men are playing and should be playing in the next phase of human evolution. The consensus, it seems, is that men in general are confused as to who they are and who they should be in the contexts of personal spiritual evolution, society and personal relationships. But there is hope, if we can get past the petty ego that consumes most of the average person's time, we can really make some progress. Easier said than done. What role models do we have in our modern times for such a transformation? Jesus and Buddha are examples that come to my mind, but their stories have grown blurry over time and feel distant. Maybe their stories can be revitalized. Where is our ideal modern man archetype?
Things to consider: What do men expect from themselves and each other? What do women expect from men? Are these expectations valid? How much does gender matter?
I wonder how much of a role gender will play in the future of human beings. The closer one moves to spiritual enlightenment, the less gender plays a part it seems.
I recommend the magazine to anyone interested in these questions and issues

thoughts on the news
The news on television is nothing more than cheap entertainment and should be regarded as such.

thoughts on the road, revisited
We aren't thinking of being thankful when we are late and held up by something beyond our control, but the timing on those other, seemingly serendipitous happenings would be all amiss if it weren't for those seemingly disastrous occasions when we are held up.

A more open China?
It's hard for me to determine how much of this is propaganda, but all politics aside, I can only hope that these Olympics bring more freedom and prosperity to all the people of China.
thoughts
So I was watching the Olympics yesternight and there's this commercial, one typical of an Olympics sponsor, that shows various athletes of differing disciplines being epic and saying 'I'm not gonna leave without one' and 'I've been wanting this my whole life', etc. Then the twist of the commercial comes and the viewer realizes they've been talking about the new Mcdonald's chicken sandwich and not Olympic Gold. It's actually not a bad commercial from an advertising perspective when it comes to storyline, tricking the viewer and whatnot, and I'm glad those athletes get the money they do from the endorsement, but it all comes off as ridiculous because it's so unbelievable, and not unbelievable in an amazing way, more like in a 'I would be shocked to hear that any Olympic athlete chooses to eat at Mcdonald's' type way'.

Some people move to a new place to fit in, others go to a place to stand out, others just want to fade into the background
Tourists take pictures of each other in front of the swamp of advertising, the novelty of the imposing scene points out the absurdity of capitalism.
Pixels take up more visual space in Times Square than blue sky or steel even.

Do some people actually like being constantly, visually assaulted?

Rumi - translated by Coleman Barks
His books are worth far more than their price
....................................................................
If we're not together in the heart,
what's the point? When body and soul
aren't dancing, there's no pleasure
in colorful clothing. Why have
cooking pans when there's no food in
the house? In this world full of
fresh bread, amber, and musk, so many
different fragrances, what are they
to someone who has no sense of smell?
If you stay away from the fire, you'll
be sour, doughy, numb, and raw. You
may have lovely, just baked loaves
around you, but those friends cannot
help. You have to feel oven fire.

blows my mind
I am so overwhelmed by the sheer number of people in the world. I can't even comprehend it. One person has a universe inside of them and we have over six billion universes living on this planet. What?!

I was at a rowdy bluegrass bar last night with some friends, playing foozeball and cracking extemporaneous and often off color jokes, when it came time for me to get the next round of barley pops. I left the excitement at the foozeball table to grab some Miller High Life's at the bar for the crew. The bar was packed with people shoulder to shoulder all the way around. Bartenders ran around nonstop trying hard to keep up with the patron's insatiable demand for alcohol. I stood in a few different spots in an effort to hail a tender, but to no avail. After a few minutes, I decided it wasn't worth it and returned to the foozeball table empty handed. Not a minute later a waitress came up to our group asking if we wanted any drinks. Sometimes when you just let go of things is when they come rushing toward you.
